Finding Programs

How do I find youth basketball tryouts near me?

Use the search tool on the FloorBalance homepage at floorbalance.com. Filter by region, state, age group, gender, and level to find tryouts near you. You can also browse by state — for example floorbalance.com/state/pa for Pennsylvania — or by city at floorbalance.com/city/philadelphia-pa.

How do I find AAU basketball tryouts?

FloorBalance lists AAU basketball tryouts across all 50 states. Use the search filters on the homepage and select "Tryout" as the listing type. You can filter further by state, region, age group, and level. AAU tryouts typically run from January through April ahead of the spring and summer travel season.

How do I find youth basketball tournaments near me?

Browse FloorBalance and filter by listing type "Tournament." You can narrow by state, region, age group, and date range. Tournaments on FloorBalance include AAU tournaments, independent travel basketball tournaments, and recreational league championships.

How do I find basketball camps and clinics for my child?

Search FloorBalance and filter by "Camp" or "Clinic" listing type. Camps on FloorBalance range from half-day skills clinics for young players to week-long residential programs for high school prospects.

Can I search for youth basketball programs by age group?

Yes. FloorBalance lets you filter by age group: 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U, and 18U. You can also browse dedicated age pages — for example, floorbalance.com/age/10u for all 10U listings nationally.

Can I search for girls basketball programs?

Yes. FloorBalance has filters for Boys, Girls, and Coed programs. Girls basketball tryouts, tournaments, showcases, and roster openings are all listed alongside boys programs.

What is a roster opening?

A roster opening is a specific open spot on an existing team that is already formed and competing. Unlike a general tryout, a roster opening is posted when a team needs to fill one or two positions — for example, a 15U AAU team looking for a point guard. Roster openings are common mid-season when players move or become ineligible.

Youth Basketball Basics

What is AAU basketball?

AAU stands for Amateur Athletic Union. AAU basketball is one of the most popular forms of youth travel basketball in the United States, operating outside of school programs. AAU teams compete in regional and national tournaments, typically from April through July. Players 7U through 17U can participate in AAU basketball. FloorBalance lists AAU tryouts, events, and roster openings across all 50 states.

What is travel basketball?

Travel basketball refers to competitive youth basketball programs that travel beyond their local area to compete in tournaments. Travel teams are more competitive than recreational leagues and typically require tryouts. Players on travel teams often compete in AAU, USAB, or independently sanctioned tournaments.

What is the difference between AAU, EYBL, 3SSB, and UAA basketball?

These are different competitive circuits for youth basketball. AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) is the largest and most open circuit. EYBL (Nike Elite Youth Basketball League) is Nike's elite invite-only circuit for top 15U-17U prospects. 3SSB (adidas 3-Stripe Select Basketball) is adidas's elite circuit. UAA (Under Armour Association) is Under Armour's elite circuit. These elite circuits are heavily scouted by college coaches. FloorBalance covers all of these plus HoopGroup, New Balance, and independent programs.

What age groups play youth basketball?

Youth basketball is organized by age group, typically: 6U (under 6), 8U, 10U, 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U, and 18U. Some organizations use grade-based divisions instead of age-based. AAU and most national circuits use age as of a specific cutoff date (typically August 1 for the upcoming season).

What is a basketball showcase?

A basketball showcase is an event where players perform in front of college coaches and recruiters. Unlike tournaments, showcases are specifically designed for college recruiting exposure. Top showcases like Nike EYBL, adidas 3SSB, and UAA events attract Division I college coaches. FloorBalance lists showcases at all levels, from local exposure events to national elite showcases.

When is AAU basketball season?

The primary AAU basketball season runs from approximately April through July, peaking with national championships in the summer. However, many AAU programs also run fall and winter seasons. The spring/summer season is the most important for college recruiting, as it is when college coaches are permitted to evaluate prospects at AAU events.

How do I get my child recruited for college basketball?

College basketball recruiting for youth players typically begins in earnest during the high school years. Key steps include: playing on a competitive AAU or travel team that competes at elite showcases; creating a highlight film and recruiting profile; attending camps hosted by college programs; and reaching out directly to college coaches. FloorBalance lists recruiting showcases and exposure events that are attended by college coaches.
